Normally I do a summer open studio as part of Cambridge Artists Open Studios. This year I missed the deadline for officially being part of that, but I am opening my studio anyway. You can find an advert for my open studios at the back of the Cambridge Artists Studios booklet, and I will be advertising online in advance of the event.

My work

'From my studio in a shallow dip of rolling farmland, I witness the enduring landscape exposed to the weather, the changing seasons, and passing of the sun. I glimpse the progress of wild creatures in the margins and ponder on the various traces of human life.'

This was an earlier attempt to describe the why and wherefore of my work. Is it still true? As usual, I find definition eludes me, although those words are at least in part true, I find my work is more abstracted now, more internalised. With each piece of work I am on a quest for the right resonating frequency, something human, something describing nature and the rightness of it. A kind of truth.

About me

I live and work in north Essex, my studio is surrounded by farmland.
During Higher Education I studied Fine Art and became interested in ceramics. My education included a diploma by Independent study, where I concentrated on ceramics. I lived for many years in London, where I made ceramics sporadically, in makeshift studios, while I earned my living working in the building trade, as a plasterer and decorator.
Moving back to my roots, I have for the last few years been a dedicated artist, producing a variety of ceramics, exhibiting in galleries including locations in London, Norfolk, Cambridge and Oxfordshire.

In September 2015 I won the Bruckner Foundation Prize at the Musee de Carouge Biennial ceramic competition in Geneva, Switzerland, for a bone china lampshade. I am a member of the Craft Potters Association and the Anglian Potters.
